Halifax Getaway
Several years ago, Rachel and I started a tradition of spending a few nights in Halifax each summer. We love the city and always enjoy coming back to eat at our favorite restaurants, run along the waterfront, and hike through Point Pleasant Park.
We both completed our degrees at Dalhousie here, so Halifax holds a lot of great memories for us.
This is a long post with lots of photos and galleries below!
Along the Halifax Waterfront, you can see Georges Island and its lighthouse. Although we didn’t visit it on this trip, it is a Canadian national historic site that you can reach by ferry.
You can learn more about Georges Island here:

We were also able to visit Halifax’s Public Gardens when the rain finally stopped on our second day. It was amazing how quickly the city transformed once the weather cleared—people immediately filled the streets to enjoy the sunshine.

One of our favorite traditions is spending a day exploring the city on foot. We usually follow a large loop from the waterfront, up Spring Garden Road, and over to Point Pleasant Park, where we stop for a packed lunch before making our way back along the waterfront through the PSA Halifax South End Container Terminal and past the P&H Milling grain elevators. It usually ends up being a 6–7 mile walk that’s packed with great views. Here are a few links if you’d like to learn more:
Of course, no trip to Halifax would be complete without a couple of great meals. This time we visited The Bicycle Thief and The Press Gang, and both were fantastic! You can learn more about them here, followed by plenty of photos from our time in Halifax.
