Overview
The Brown-headed Nuthatch (Sitta pusilla) is a small, energetic songbird native to the pine forests of the southeastern United States. Recognized by its brown cap, bluish-gray back, and pale underparts, it is often seen climbing tree trunks and branches in search of insects and seeds. Brown-headed Nuthatches are also known for their squeaky, rubber-duck-like calls and their habit of using small pieces of bark as tools to pry insects from tree crevices.
